Movement Screening

Move Better. Hurt Less. Build Strength That Lasts.

Most people don’t get injured because they’re weak. They get injured because they’re moving poorly.

At The Bar & Plate, every smart training plan starts with a Movement Screening—a simple, non‑intimidating assessment that shows us how your body actually moves, not how strong you think you are.

What Is a Movement Screening?

A Movement Screening is a systematic way to look at fundamental human movement patterns—squatting, stepping, lunging, reaching, stabilizing, and rotating.

Rather than guessing, we assess:

  • Mobility (Can the joints move where they should?)
  • Stability (Can you control that movement?)
  • Asymmetries (Does one side work differently than the other?)
  • Red flags that may increase injury risk

Think of it like checking alignment before building a house.

Why We Screen Before We Train

Most gyms skip this step.

They hand you a program and hope for the best.

We don’t.

Screening allows us to:

  • Identify limitations before pain shows up
  • Reduce unnecessary wear and tear
  • Customize training to your body, age, and history
  • Progress you safely and confidently

This is especially important for:

  • People with past injuries
  • Athletes looking to avoid injuries
  • Those returning to training after time off
  • Anyone who wants longevity—not just short‑term results

What Happens During the Screen?

The screening takes about an hour and is not a workout.

You’ll perform a small series of controlled movements while we observe and score how your body responds.

Common patterns assessed include:

  • Squatting
  • Stepping
  • Lunging
  • Reaching overhead
  • Core and trunk stability
  • Single‑leg balance and control

There’s no sweating, no judgment, and no “pushing through pain.”

What We Do With the Results

After the screen, you’ll receive:

  • A clear explanation of what we saw
  • Your strengths (what’s working well)
  • Your limitations (what needs attention)
  • A prioritized plan of action

From there, we build:

  • Corrective exercises (when needed)
  • Strength training that fits you
  • Progressions that respect your movement quality

You don’t get a cookie‑cutter program. You get a roadmap.

Why This Matters More As We Age

As we get older, the goal shifts.

It’s no longer just about burning calories.

It’s about:

  • Getting up off the floor
  • Carrying groceries without pain
  • Training without fear of injury
  • Staying strong, capable, and independent

Movement quality becomes the foundation for everything else.

Who Is This For?

Movement Screening is ideal if you:

  • Are new to strength training
  • Have nagging aches or stiffness
  • Feel “tight,” uneven, or unstable
  • Want to train smarter, not harder
  • Care about long‑term health and resilience

You do not need to be athletic or flexible to benefit.
